First Breakdown

January 22, 2016

While waiting for the truck to catch up with us in Malaga we get a message that it has broken down. We're spending one more week in Spain while waiting for it to be fixed, during which we, among other things, visited the town Ronda.

It is expected that the truck will break down a few times. It is ancient. It is also pretty much 100% mechanical, which means most problems can be solved with a hammer as long as you have the spare parts and kind of know what you’re doing (no, that’s not me, but we have people in the group who knows their stuff). What no one expected though was that the first breakdown would occur already in Europe. Only 300km left to Malaga and the fuel pump breaks…

This gave us another week in Southern Spain, a bit lazier than the first, but still with a few activities. How about a fancy wine tasting? And by fancy I mean buying the cheapest bottles of wine from the supermarket and drinking them out of plastic cups on the beach. We made sure to make a proper tasting out of it though and even reviewed all of them. The comments included “tastes like wine”, “tastes kind of like wine”, and “definitely tastes like wine”.

The week also included a trip to the town Ronda, which, to me, was one of the most impressive sights in Spain. The town is built on top of a canyon, and by on top I mean directly on top, with buildings all the way to the edge, and bridges crossing the canyon. The views are simply stunning. I can imagine this being a bad place to wander around after a few too many beers though.

Eventually the truck was fixed and reached Malaga. The journey could start for real! Two nights later we were ready to board the ferry to Tangier, Morocco. Time for Africa!
